From the Pastor’s Desk – July 2015
Greetings to all my people in the name of the spirit giving God and saviour Jesus Christ, who had resurrected, ascended into heaven and now is interceding for us. When ascended, He lifted his hands and blessed His disciples. Blessing is a form of prayer done in the form of lifting up the hands. He also had sent His comforter, the Holy Spirit to be with us, to comfort us, unite us, lead us and to continue to empower us in the ministry of blessing others in the land. What a privilege it is to be the children of God.
According to Church calendar we are now in the period after Pentecost. This reminds us of the time when church was born on the day of Pentecost. The people who fled when Jesus was crucified are not afraid of crowds anymore. Peter who was frightened by a servant girl has become altogether a different person now. God showed that people with the Holy Spirit and without the Holy Spirit are two different sets of human kind. Everything that happens in history happens in the perfect will of God.
Having accomplished the victory over sin and death, God planned to begin the age of Grace, Jesus told the disciples to watch, wait and to pray in the upper room till the Holy Spirit would come. And on the day of Pentecost, as we know, the Holy Spirit arrived like the rushing of the mighty wind. Tongues of fire rested on each of them and they were filled with the Holy Spirit. Something unprecedented in history has happened. The Jews from all over the world gathered in Jerusalem for the festival heard the great sound of the Holy Spirit and witnessed what was going on there in the upper room. What they saw caused wonder and confusion because they saw the disciples praising the mighty works of God in their own languages.
But it was all preparation done by the Holy Spirit so that the Gospel may be revealed. The Spirit brought the crowds, curious and confused, so that they were ready to listen to the clarification Peter would give them about the events that were unfolding before them. Peter is not the old Peter now. He is a firebrand with the coming of the Holy Spirit. He preached as if Christ could return anytime and that the last days are upon them. When the sermon was over 3000 people accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. Just as in the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit is still working all over the world through His servants to call people to Christ. It will be a glorious thing to be in partnership with the Holy Spirit and for us all to walk in His footsteps. “How beautiful upon the mountain are the feet of those who bring the “God News.”
May I conclude my thoughts with a prayer. May God Almighty help us to move forward in the power of the Holy Spirit with passion to make a great leap in our community, in our church and in our families. With the good news, that all who call upon the Lord shall be saved. Amen.
